CLUB SERVICE PROJECTS

The Rotary Club of La Porte has a long history of community service projects that have provided benefits to residents of La Porte and the surrounding area.  We have also participated in activities that have provided much needed assistance to people in less fortunate areas throughout the world.  Here are some of the more recent projects and activities supported by club members through their volunteer efforts and financial contributions.

Craven Pond Clean Up

·         Club members work with local area youth to keep trails around Craven Pond trimmed, neat and accessible

Gazebo - Park Department

·         Gazebo built as a service project and located in the Rotary Gardens section of Soldiers Memorial Park

International Exchange

·         Funds to support local recipients participating in Rotary International Exchange program, which sends teams of ambassadors to visits other countries.  WE also host incoming exchange guests who are visiting our area from other countries  to build better friendships worldwide.

July 4th Parade

·         Look for the Rotary Club of La Porte entry in the annual city parade

John and Helen Haverstock Memorial Scholarship

·         Scholarships are awarded annually from this memorial fund entrusted to the Rotary Club of La Porte.  Recipients are honored at an annual scholarship banquet

Literacy

·         Children's books are regularly donated to the La Porte County Public Library from funds raised in the club to support and promote literacy among children.

·         Financial support given to the Literacy Council of La Porte Council

Little League Sponsorship

·         Annual support of local little league.

Nothing but Nets

·         Club funds are donated to purchase nets for people in Africa to use for covering while sleeping in order to reduce cases of malaria.

Rotaract

·         The Rotaract Club of Purdue University North Central is sponsored by the Rotary Club of La Porte.

Rotary Foundation

·         All club members are encouraged to donate $100 every year to the Rotary Foundation to support service projects throughout the world, including Polio Plus, a program to eradicate the world of polio.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

·         Rotary members volunteer each year to "Ring the Bells" and raise funds for the Salvation Army of La Porte.  Many people in need are assisted with the funds raised through this partnership effort.

Shoes for Kids

·         Funds are raised from members to provide children in need with shoes, boots, and other necessary footwear each school year

Sunflower Festival

·         In support of our hometown annual event, Rotary members sponsor a booth each year at the Sunflower Festival.  Festival attendees enjoy corn on the cob and other treats served up by our local Rotarians.

Thanksgiving Dinner

·         Each year, members of the Rotary Club of La Porte host and serve a special Thanksgiving Dinner to residents and staff from the La Porte County Home.

World Affairs Conference

·         Funds provided for local high school students to attend Rotary International regional discussions on world affairs

YMCA Strong Kids Program

·         Gifts to YMCA from Rotary of La Porte Community Grants to support program for children.
